tips for a master bathroom renovationMaster bathrooms evolved from standard hallway bathrooms to a mini spa retreat.  It has become everyone's personal sanctuary: a home away from home.  You can get the same experience in your bathroom.  It doesn't matter what your bathroom looked like before; it's going to become the area you'll never leave.  Here are eight Tips for the Master Bath Renovation.

  1. Style: There are many options for master bathrooms.  From traditional and classic to coastal and cottage, there's not a design your master bathroom won't handle.  However, since the master bathroom is made for two, you and your spouse may have different ideas.  In that case, you need to work with a professional that will bring out the best of both decors.
  2. Space: Is the bathroom big or small? Large bathroom spaces have plenty of space to use with a greater chance of receiving what you requested.  Small bathrooms have to make the most of little space.  Space-saving alternatives are the best solutions to maximizing the space.  Small bathrooms with the option to expand (tear a wall down, home addition, etc) have more room to work with.
  3. Lighting: You aren't inclined to keep the same lighting fixtures, but there's nothing wrong with them if you do keep them.  If you are open to changing them, you have the option of adding windows, skylights, overhead fixtures, dimmers. accent and LED lights.  It can be installed at the top, above the mirror or hidden underneath the vanity.
  4. Material: Any material can work in a master bathroom.  Durable, water-resistant materials are best for bathrooms, however, since there's going to be a lot of water and walking.  It needs to be made of the highest quality so it lasts a long time.
  5. Items: Shower or bathtub? One or two sink bowls? Pedestal or vanity? Each item in the bathroom contributes to the overall look of the finished product.  Showers, shower/bath combo, one sink bowl and sink pedestals are space-savers.  Vanities provides shelf storage and countertop space while bathtubs represent luxury.  There are universal designs available also to accommodate everyone's tastes.
  6. Layout: The way it's going to be arranged depends on where lighting and plumbing fixtures are located.  It's easier to follow a similar pattern to where the current features are, but if you want to move things around it's going to cost extra to move lighting and plumbing to the area.
  7. Storage: Storage is necessary for master bathrooms.  Where to place it all is the question.  Showers and baths need storage space.  Add a large cabinet area to store towels, pillows, toilet tissue, and bath accessories.  You can also dedicate a small room nearby for bathroom storage if space is limited.
  8. Extra: How luxurious is your master bathroom going to be? Fireplaces, televisions, sound systems, chandeliers, massage tables and washer/dryers are options people are adding to their master bathroom.  Master bathrooms can be connected to walk-in closets/dressing rooms or bedrooms.

You don't need a million dollars to have a master bathroom of your own.  It's more affordable than ever.  You can get a master bathroom upgrade in your home anytime.  For more how-to's on master bathroom renovations, contact us.
