Lavender is one of the most popular flowers in gardens around the world. I’m sure most of you had the pleasure at one time or another, of sitting in a garden reveling in the variety of colors, from subtle pink to vibrant purple of Lavender plants. Who hasn’t been caught off guard by their wonderful scent wafted about on a warm summer breeze? They are to me quite frankly – relaxation and joy!

lavenderBesides being great to look at in the garden, Lavender has quite a few uses I’m sure many of us are aware of. Their flower spikes are often used in flower arrangements. The Lavender’s fragrant flowers are used in potpourris. Lavender oil is used quite often in soaps and other bath products like our 6.5 oz signature bars that come in 8 wonderful fragrance combinations, including of course, Lavender Mist.

But Lavender also has quite a few other interesting properties and uses you may not be aware of:

  1. As a species of flower it is actually in the mint family
  2. The most popular variety is English Lavender
  3. It is often grown as a condiment used in salads and dressings
  4. It is used in an herb blend called Herbs de Provence
  5. It was used in hospitals during World War I
  6. Lavender oil can be used to treat acne
  7. Pouches of dried lavender flowers can be placed with stored clothing to deter moths
  8. Lavender was one of the holy herbs used in the biblical Temple to prepare the holy essence
  9. During Roman times Lavender flowers were sold for the equivalent of a month’s wages for a farm worker
